Bénard, Laurent: Vibrato 2011

Made of 40% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. 2 grams of dosage.  Complex and seductive nose of cherry, papaya, overripe starfruit, freshly roasted coffee, rosehip, incense, dried mushrooms and a rich, nutty, caramelized and complex Palo Cortado sherry.  Swirling the glass revealed patisserie, meringue, old milolette cheese, iodine and intense minerality. It has an overlaying purity to it that I often find in mature Selosse Initial. This wine is vinous and dynamic. Flavors expand beautifully. On the palate you get the patisserie from the nose together with papaya, rooibos tea, fresh and dried cherries, coffee, seared meat, mushrooms, caramel and candied oranges. Delicious long finish of tasted macadamia nuts, candied citrus, peach, warm yeasts and woody spices. This 2011 is drinking perfectly now but can age for at least another 5 years. Best out of a large champagne glass type Jamesse Synergie or Riedel Vinum Champagne. A wine to drink enjoy as standalone or to pair with rich gastronomy, even game. Highly recommended.
