André Robert: Les Jardins du Mesnil

Made of 100% Chardonnay from Le Mesnil sur Oger. 5.4 grams of dosage. Light golden with very small bubbles and a nice mousse. The nose is seductive with white summer flowers, acacia blossoms, marzipan, nougat, marshmellow, dried apricots, cooked apples, celeriac and a complex minerality on a base of citrus fruit with zests. After a longer while in the glass it showed custard with vanilla, lilly of the valley and soft woody overtones. The mouthfeel is soft and slightly creamy, very pleasant. On the palate you get citrus fruits, sweet pear, Charentais melon, lemon with zest, a hint of orangeblossom oil and almond. Excellent balance. The finish is medium long but doesn’t reverberate the lovely fruit. Instead you get dried lemon, woody spices, tobacco, mild toast and a hint of saffron. The dosage has been integrated wonderfully. This is a perfect aperitif. Recommended.
